I certainly do not blame the Indians or Chinese for rising food prices and have no idea how you could glean this from my writing.

I think that blame in the opposite direction is justified: Indians, Chinese and the rest of the world can blame the US and Western Europe for biofuels policies and practices that have put fuel and food in competition with each other, both directly and indirectly leading to increased food prices everywhere.

Ethanol is not at all the only fuel available to Americans. It is ”a” fuel, and a terrible one from many perspectives, as I have written about at length. We should not be using ethanol as a fuel at all, in my opinion. We should leave agricultural lands for food production. We can use waste vegetable oil and other food waste as fuel. I find this acceptable in the short term.

Our best long-term bet is moving to solar and wind power, with electric, diesel electric and other hybrid vehicle designs being used for transportation (specifically including plug-in hybrids).
